For quite some time my drivers side seat back never stayed clipped in to the seat back, especially after a drive. It would always pop out at the top after I had sat in the drivers seat. This started to annoy me so in the last few days I investigated further.
Unfortunately I had not taken a photo of the seat back in situ having popped out from the back of the seat, but when I took it off and put it on my work bench I noticed that the card had snapped on one side as in the photos below.
The contours of the red lines help see how the card has warped over time, also on the upper right-hand side you will notice the break. The break can be seen clearer in the next photo.
I thought of buying a new seat back frame, or event like the ones available from DeLoreanGo.com that are pre-covered with black or grey leather, however I thought to myself how this could be a small challenge to fix it myself.
I had the idea of bracing over the break and also along the area that is most warped. I hunted around the house, shed, garage for material to use as a brace when in the shed I came across a long strip of the material I would eventually use.
The next photo shows the metal strip with pre-drilled holes that I took and, using my Dremmel, cut two strips off. I would plan to affix them in the approximate position shown.
Next I measured the screw size that I would need and ordered some complete with washers and nuts as below.
When they arrived it took just minutes to fix the brace bars to the seat back.
Fixed firmly in place all I needed to to now was put the seat-back, back on the seat.
The seat back, for the first time in ages, fitted firmly in place without a chance of it popping off under pressure of the driver in the seat.
Job done!
